The 2022 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2022) was kicked off successfully in Shanghai on 1 September, 2022, followed by the “Cloud NetworkEmpowering Smarter Cities” Forum hosted by China Telecom in Shanghai Expo Centre the next day. Mr. Shengwen Hou, Chief Specialist of China Telecom Cloud Technology Co., Ltd attended the forum and shared insights regarding the innovative technologies of cloud and digital intelligence from eSurfing Cloud. He also highlighted case studies to illustrate how eSurfing Cloud is powering smart cities, social governance development, and digital economy transformation.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is empowering different industries and reshaping economic activities such as production and consumption. It also accelerates the development of new technologies, new models and new ecosystems. Therefore, it is a key engine for the development of the digital economy. In August this year, six departments including the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education issued the “Guiding Opinions on Accelerating Scenario Innovation and Promoting High-quality Economic Development with High-level Application of Artificial Intelligence” (hereinafter referred to as the “Guiding Opinions”). The “Guiding Opinions” points out that scenario innovations will become a new path for AI technology upgrading and industrial growth. Without a doubt, scenario innovations will continue to spring up, which will push the development of next-generation AI to a higher level.

On the other hand, Mr. Shengwen Hou, Chief Specialist of China Telecom Cloud Technology Co., Ltd stated that eSurfing Cloud is focusing on AI scenario innovations with cloud and digital intelligence capabilities. eSurfing Cloud has also built a series of pilot projects with cloud and digital intelligence to accelerate the digital transformation of the city.

Focuses on digital intelligence with cloud

The national policy summarises that the digital transformation journey for enterprises is about “Cloud”, “Digital”, and “Intelligence”. In order to facilitate enterprises and governments to implement the transformation efficiently,  eSurfing Cloud has also built an integrated service with “Cloud and Digital Intelligence” to power enterprises.

eSurfing Cloud builds a set of comprehensive tools and an expert team for cloud migration. By leveraging the organic capability of eSurfing Cloud, enterprises can enjoy efficient and reliable cloud migrations. On the other hand, eSurfing Cloud provides Big Data platforms and data centres to specifically support hybrid deployment with domestic X86 and ARM routes. eSurfing Cloud also supports public cloud, private cloud, and hybrid cloud for data governance application in different industries. Utilising the cloud native infrastructure in eSurfing Cloud’s AI centralised platform, enterprises can fast track its development, application and deployment of AI technologies.

eSurfing Cloud has been innovatively creating a computing delivery network which can manage and adjust computing power efficiently across edge cloud, central cloud, and other third party resources. It also supports and accelerates the computing power in AI applications to optimise and achieve a comprehensive intelligence to facilitate computing network resources.

At present, the eSurfing Cloud computing delivery network has been applied in different areas. Our cloud rendering in real-time is based on the distributed GPU cluster, which provides audio and video streaming, as well as a platform for cloud rendering. Adhering the intelligence scheduling of computing delivery network, part of the tasks can be processed by unloading them to the edge rendering server, which optimises latency. It can also be applied on various scenarios including cloud gaming, 3D application, VR and AR to fulfil the needs of large bandwidth, low latency, and high-quality performance. In addition, China Telecom has partnered with Tsinghua University in Beijing to explore and develop digital human to accelerate the innovative development of Metaverse.

Interpreting digital transformation with eSurfing Cloud

eSurfing Cloud has been creating tremendous success for transforming cloud connectivity. In Huoshan, eSurfing Cloud has built the “1+1+1+N” infrastructure for the city. The architecture includes a cloud resource centre, a smart city computing centre, an operation centre, and a number of smart application systems. Through the smart city computing centre, Huoshan can manage videos from the monitoring systems with a unified management system. At present, it can access and manage 2,969 videos from 10 different departments including city management department, countryside safety department, and public transportation department. The “Video Integration Platform” demonstrates the video and the “video AI” can identify various sensitive scenarios such as illegal parking and blocking of license plates.  

To solve the problem of traffic congestion, eSurfing Cloud builds the first senseless toll station for Guangzhou Airport toll station. We offer an integrated solution by combining different advanced technologies including cross-camera tracking, dense motion segmentation, point cloud, night object detection, and digital twins. It guides traffic intelligently which increases the traffic speed by 260% and reduces the transaction time from 4s to 1.65s. It effectively eases the traffic pressure during peak hours and enhances the urban development of smart transportation.

Moving forward, eSurfing Cloud is continuing to explore innovative scenarios for smart cities. As we are now accelerating urban development, smart city infrastructure becomes a key focus for a sustainable and harmonised future. The use of cloud computing and AI increases efficiency for public services and public infrastructure and solves issues for city management to create an elevated standard of life for the people.
