A: CSBS backs up an ECS. It uses the consistency backup data of multiple EVS disks to restore the service data of an ECS. CSBS ensures data security and correctness, and service continuity to the greatest extent.

Q: What is the difference between CSBS and VBS?

A: CSBS mainly creates consistency online backups for all EVSs under the ECS. For scenarios where the entire ECS needs to be protected (including ECS configuration specifications and the consistent data of multiple EVSs), it is recommended to use CSBS.

VBS mainly creates online backup for a single EVS (system disk and data disk) in the ECS. For scenarios where the system disk has no custom data, the VBS can be used to back up only the data disk, so as to ensure data security while reducing backup costs.

Q: What is the backup policy?

A: Backup policy refers to the policy preset for the backup operation on the backup object. The policy includes the name of the backup policy, the scheduling plan of the backup task, and the retention policy of the backup data.

Wherein, the scheduling plan includes the frequency and the time point of the backup execution, while the retention policy of the backup data includes the retention time or quantity of the backup data. You can automatically back up ECSs by binding them to a backup policy.

Q: Is there a quota limit for CSBS?

A: There is a quota limit for CSBS, which serves the purpose of preventing resource abuse. If you have more needs, please submit a ticket to apply for increasing the VBS and CSBS quota.

The default number of repositories is 10.

The default capacity of a single repository is 100GB-1024000GB.

The default number of backup policies is 20.

The default number of policies that can be bound to a single repository is 10.

A single policy can be bound with a maximum number of 10 ECSs by default.

Q: What is the CSBS mechanism?

A: By default, a full backup is executed for a new ECS for the first time, and permanent incremental backups are performed subsequently.

For the full backup for the first time, the total space of the disk is backed up (not the used space of the disk). For example, if a 100GB disk has written 40GB data in total, then 100GB will be backed up.

For subsequent incremental backups, the changed space of the disk compared with the previous backup is backedup. For example, if 5GB data is newly generated or changed after the first backup, 5GB will be backed up for the second time.

CSBS supports for recovering the full amount of data for the ECS from any backup, regardless of whether it is a full or incremental backup. Therefore, when a backup is manually deleted or is automatically deleted upon expiration, it will not affect the use of other incremental backups to recover data.

For example: ECS A generates three backups of 1, 2, and 3 in sequence, and each backup has data updates. After backup 2 is deleted, backup 1 and backup 3 can still be used for data recovery.
