Multicast efficiently reduces network resource consumption, enabling point-to-multipoint applications with minimal network usage. Primary applications:
• Video and audio meeting
• IPTV and live streaming
• Financial information dissemination (e.g., stock quotes)
• Monitoring (camera) businesses, e.g., railways, public security
• Broadband interactive gaming
• Cluster heartbeat services (e.g., Oracle RAC, Tomcat heartbeat)
After enabling multicast, you can create and manage the following network scenarios:
• Multicast Network 1: Multicast networks in the same region and same VPC.
Multicast sources and members are on the cloud, in the same region and VPC. Traffic between tenant VPCs is isolated using VXLAN. Multicast members can join dynamically or statically.
• Multicast Network 2: Hybrid Multicast Network of Multicast source Outside the Cloud
The multicast source is in the user’s IDC server room, while members are on eSurfing Cloud within the same region and VPC. Connectivity is via a dedicated line, forming a hybrid multicast network. Supports IGMPv2 and IGMPv3 protocols.
