Before using ZOS, it is suggested that you first understand the basic concepts such as bucket, object, region, and endpoint so as to better use ZOS. For more information, see Basic Concepts .

ZOS supports the following functions:

Storage Type

Standard storage provides highly reliable, highly available and high-performance storage services, and is suitable for storage scenarios that are frequently accessed (multiple visits per month on average), such as mobile applications, websites, AV, social pictures, big data analysis and other business scenarios.

Bucket Management

In ZOS, users can create, search for, view, and delete buckets to facilitate bucket management.

Create a bucket: A bucket is a container for storing objects in ZOS. Data can be stored in OBS only after a bucket is created.

Search for a bucket: Users can search for buckets by bucket name.

View a bucket: Users can view the related properties of a bucket as needed, including the basic information, basic data statistics, and basic settings.

Delete a bucket: When a bucket is empty, users can delete it to reduce resource use.

Object Management

An object is the basic unit of data storage in ZOS. In ZOS, users can upload, download, search for, upload in multipart, append and upload, and share objects to meet your object management needs in various scenarios.

Upload an object: Upload files to the created ZOS bucket. To classify files, you can create a new directory before uploading.

Download an object: Download the stored object to a local directory.

Search for an object: You can search for objects by object name.

Upload objects in multipart: A large-sized file is split into several small segments before uploading, and each segment is a continuous part of data. If a certain segment fails to be transmitted due to network exception during uploading, only the segment needs to be transmitted again, without the need of transmitting the whole object that may lead to extra consumption.

Append and upload: By creating an appended object, users can append data to the end of an object to modify object content.

Share an object: You can share an object through a link and access it simply by opening the link.

Permission Management

ZOS manages permissions through the read-write permission settings of buckets and bucket authorization policies. By default, the resources in ZOS are private and only accessible to the resource owner. You can set different read-write permissions for buckets and objects, and can also grant roles access to resources.

Set read and write permissions You can set private, public read, and public read-write permissions for buckets and objects.

Authorize a role: A role can be temporarily authorized with STS through access control.

Manage Life-cycle

You can manage the life cycle of objects through life cycle rules, such as deleting objects in the bucket periodically.

Static Website Hosting

You can upload static website files to a ZOS bucket, allow anonymous user to read these files, and then configure the bucket into static website hosting mode to host static websites on ZOS.

Cross-origin Resource Sharing (CORS)

Cross-origin resource sharing is a normative mechanism of Web browser proposed by W3C standardization organization. It defines the way a web application loaded in one origin interacts with resources in another origin. For normal Web-page requests, however, due to the existence of the same origin policy (SOP), website scripts and content among origins are non-interactive.

Anti-leech

For data anti-leech in ZOS by others, ZOS supports the anti-leech method based on header field Referer in HTTPHeader, and enables users to set access whitelist and blocklist.

Log Management

You can get the access data of the bucket through log management. When the log function is enabled for a bucket, ZOS will automatically log the access request of this bucket, and generate a log file to write into the bucket specified by the user.

Multi-version Control

You can retain multiple versions of an object in a bucket, making it easier for you to retrieve and restore each version, and quickly recover data in case of unexpected operation or application failure. By default, ZOS version control is disabled, and deleted or overwritten data cannot be retrieved. When version control is enabled, data overwriting and deleting operations will be saved in the form of version history.

Cross-region Replication

Cross-Region Replication is an automatic and asynchronous (near real-time) replication of objects across storage buckets in different ZOS data centers (regions). It replicates operations such as uploading, updating, and deleting objects from the source bucket to the target bucket in different regions, meeting cross-region disaster recovery or user data replication needs.

Using STS Provisional Access Credentials to Access ZOS

STS provisional authorization manages user identity and provisional access to resources. By creating a role, the role can get a provisional identity credential, namely, STS token, that can customize time limit and access permissions, through STS.

Fragment Management

You can use the fragment management function of a bucket to clean up the fragments generated in some special circumstances during shard upload to save storage space.

Server-side Encryption

You can enable the encryption function at the KMS server, and the uploaded objects will be stored in ZOS in an encrypted way. When downloading an object, ZOS will automatically decrypt the encrypted file before being available to users.

Data Statistics

You can monitor the storage capacity, traffic statistics and request times of the bucket through the ZOS Console, which is convenient for you to know the current resource usage in time and plan the usage plan reasonably.

API

ZOS provides a REST (Representational State Transfer) style API, enabling you to call this API through HTTP/HTTPS, and create, modify, and delete buckets, as well as uploading, downloading, and deleting objects.
