Relational Database Service (MySQL)

Creating Read-only Instances

2023-12-05 08:31:21

Operation Scenarios

Read-only instances are used to enhance the read ability of the active instance and reduce the load on the active instance.

After a single RDS instance or active and standby RDS instances are successfully created, you can create read-only instances according to your business needs.

Operation Steps

Step 1. Log in to the Console.

Step 2. Click  in the upper left corner of the Console and select a Region and a Project.

Step 3. Select Database > RDS MySQL. Go to the RDS information page.

Step 4. On the Instance Management page, select the specified instance and click Create Read-only in the Action column.

Table 5-1 Basic information

Parameters

Descriptions

Current Region

By default, read-only instances are in the same region as the active instance.

Instance Name

An instance name contains 4 to 64 characters, must start with a letter, and can only contain uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens or underlines among special characters.

Database engine

默认与主实例的数据库引擎一致,不可更改。

Consistent with the database engine of the active instance by default and cannot be changed.

Database Version

Consistent with the database version of the active instance by default and cannot be changed.

Table 5-2 Specifications and storage

Parameters

Descriptions

Performance Specification

CPU and memory of an instance. Number of connections and maximum IOPS are different, depending on performance specification.

For more information about performance specifications, refer to Database Instance Specifications.

After an instance is created, users can change the specification as needed. For details, please refer to the section describing how to change CPU and memory specifications of an instance.

Storage Type

The storage type of an instance determines the read-write speed of the instance. The higher the maximum throughput, the faster the read-write speed.

· GPIO: Disk type SATA, with a maximum throughput of 90 MB/s

Storage Space

The storage space you apply for will certainly incur additional costs for the file system, including inodes and reserved blocks, as well as the space necessary for the database to run.

The storage space of a read-only instance is the same as that of the active instance by default.

Table 5-3 Network

Parameters

Descriptions

Virtual Private Cloud

Same as the active instance.

Subnet

Like the active instance, when a read-only instance is created, the RDS will automatically configure the Intranet address for you. You can also enter an unused Intranet address in the subnet number segment. The Intranet address can be edited after the instance is successfully created.

Intranet security group

Same as the active instance.

Step 6. Confirm the relevant information on the Specification Confirmation page.

  • To re-select specifications, click Back to return to the service selection page to modify the basic information.

  • Ensure that the information is correct, click Submit to issue a request to add a read-only instance.

Step 7. After the read-only instance is successfully created, you can view and manage it.

You can view the creation progress and result in Task Center.
