This page describes the lifecycle of MySQL Community Edition and RDS MySQL.
After a database kernel version reaches its end of life (EOL), only updates to minor kernel versions will be affected. Existing instances will continue to function normally, and the purchase of new instances will not be impacted. For information about purchasing new versions and related policies, refer to the corresponding announcements.
RDS for MySQL on eSurfing Cloud provides an extended support period beyond the lifecycle defined by the MySQL Community Edition. During this period, eSurfing Cloud will continue to release new versions that include fixes only for issues with a significant impact on instance security and stability. Because the MySQL Community Edition handles security vulnerabilities confidentially, eSurfing Cloud cannot guarantee that all critical security and stability issues will be addressed.
The primary purpose of the extended support period is to provide customers with additional time to upgrade to a newer major version. However, we still recommend upgrading as early as possible to benefit from the latest features, performance improvements, and security enhancements. For upgrade instructions, see Upgrade Database Version.
The lifecycle information for major versions of MySQL Community Edition and MySQL is shown in the following table.
Some dates in the table are estimates and may be adjusted before the corresponding lifecycle ends or support is discontinued. Refer to the actual dates announced by eSurfing Cloud for the most up-to-date information.
