How do I estimate the size of the repository I want to purchase?

Manual Backup Scenario

For a manual one-off backup, it is recommended that the repository capacity is greater than or equal to 1.2 times the total assigned space of the EVS you need to back up.

Automatic Backup Scenario

For automatic periodic backups, you can estimate the size of the repository you want to create using the following formula:

Repository capacity (GB)=(EVS capacity (GB)+backup retention time (days)/backup period (days)*Daily EVS variable data volume (GB))*120%

Note: If the reservation rule of the backup policy is set to By Number , the size can be converted to the retention period for calculation. For example, if a company makes one backup per day and sets the retention number to 30 copies, it can be converted into a retention period of 30 days.

You can complete the estimate according to the above formula and adjust according to your actual business situation.

Estimated Case

For example, a company has a 500 GB cloud server and the used capacity is 100 GB. When calculating the repository capacity, you need to use the EVS capacity (that is, 500 GB) rather than the used capacity. The daily variable data volume is about 5 GB. According to the backup policy planned by the company, the backup is performed at 00:00 every morning with a retention period of one month. Then, the size of the VBS repository purchased by the company can be estimated by the formula:

Repository capacity=(500+(30/1)*5)*120%=780 GB

Can I merge the VBS repositories?

No. The eSurfing Cloud repositories cannot be merged.

If the capacity of your repository is insufficient, we recommend that you follow the steps in Expanding a Repository.

What should I do if the repository capacity is insufficient?

Insufficient repository capacity may affect the execution of backups. In this case, you can take the following steps to address the issue:

You can expand the repository capacity to the maximum capacity required by your business. For specific operations, see Expanding a Repository.
Alternatively, you can manually delete backup files that are no longer needed in your existing repository.
If the business is not affected, you may opt to suspend automatic backups, deactivate the backup policy, or unbind the backup policy from the repository to prevent the creation of new backup copies, which may occupy the repository space.

Will the backup continue when the repository capacity exceeds the upper limit?

No.

When the repository capacity exceeds the upper limit, the system will cease performing further backups.

However, if the repository capacity has not exceeded the upper limit but is no longer adequate for the next backup, or if the capacity limit has just been reached, the system will still execute another backup successfully.

How do I reduce the repository capacity?

Currently, reducing the repository capacity is not supported.
