Repository

VBS stores backups in repositories. Before creating a backup, you need to create at least one repository to put the backups generated by the EVS in the corresponding repository. Up to 10 repositories can be created for one account and in a region. The capacity of a single repository is 100 GB-1,024,000 GB. You can increase the repository quota by submitting an order.

Backup Policy

A backup policy is a series of preset rules for backing up data, including the backup policy name, schedules of backup tasks, and retention policy for backup data. The schedule includes the frequency and the time point of backup execution, and the retention policy of backup data includes the storage time or storage quantity of backup data. By creating and enabling a backup policy, binding a backup repository for the backup policy, and binding the EVS to be backed up, you can achieve the automatic backup of an EVS.

Backup Copy

A backup copy is the backup data produced by a backup object performing a backup task. The initial backup is a full backup, which backs up all your data in the EVS. The subsequent backups are incremental backups, which back up data changed since the last backup. Backup copies can be generated through one-off backups and periodic backups. For one-off backups, the task is manually created by users. For periodic backups, the task is created by creating a backup policy and binding the EVS. The periodic backup name is automatically generated by the system.

Region

A region refers to the geographical area of a physical data center. It is divided based on geographical location and network latency. Public services such as elastic computing, block storage, object storage, VPC network, elastic WAN IP, and mirrors are shared within the same region.

Availability Zone

An Availability Zone (AZ) refers to the physical area in which the power and network are independent of each other within the same region. An AZ is a collection of one or more physical data centers with independent cooling, fire extinguishing, moisture-proof, and electricity facilities. The distance between AZs is within 100 km. Multiple AZs in a region are connected using high-speed optical fibers to meet users' demands to build high-availability systems across AZs.
