Initialising Windows-based Data Disks (Windows 2019)

2024-11-01 09:17:33

Scenario

This topic uses Windows Server 2019 Data Center 64-bit Chinese Edition as an example to describe how to initialise an EVS on Windows.

The formatting operation may differ depending on the operating system of a cloud server. This topic is for reference only.

Before You Begin

The data disk has been attached to a cloud server and has not been initialised.

Operation Steps

If the capacity of the new EVS is less than 2 TB, initialise the Windows-based data disk in two steps as follows:

Ÿ   Log in to the ECS

Ÿ   Initialise the disk: Initialise the disk as instructed on the screen. If the capacity of the new EVS is less than 2 TB, select MBR (master boot record) as the partition form.

Log in to the ECS

1.       Log in to the console.

2.       Click   in the upper left corner of the console and select a Region. In this topic, China (Hong Kong 2) is selected.

3.       Select Compute and click ECS to go to the ECS list page.

Locate the row that contains the cloud server for which the data disk is to be initialised, and in the Operation column, click Remote Login to log in to the cloud server. For more information, see Overview of Windows ECS Login.

Initialising Disk (MBR Partition)

1.       After successful login, click the Start icon and select Server Manager in the Windows Server area. You will be directed to the Server Manager > Dashboard window.

2.       On this page, click Tools in the upper right corner and select Computer Management from the drop-down menu bar.

3.       In the left-side navigation pane on the Computer Management page, select Storage > Disk Management to go to the Disk Management page. On the Disk Management page, if there is a disk that is not initialised, the Initialise Disk window will be displayed automatically, as shown in the following figure:

4.       Because the capacity of the uninitialised disk is less than 2 TB, check MBR (Master Boot Record) as the partition form and click OK.

5.       Right-click the unallocated capacity area of disk 1 and choose New Simple Volume, as shown in the following figure:

6.       In the New Simple Volume Wizard window that appears, click Next as instructed on the screen.

7.       You can specify the volume size as required (we recommend that you calculate the capacity of the disk partition before initialization). The default value is the maximum value. Click Next.

8.       Check Assign the following drive letter. The default value is E. Then click Next.

9.       Check Format this volume with the following settings, set parameters as required, format the new partition. Here, the default values are used. Then, click Next to go to the Finish page.

10.  Click Finish and wait for the system to finish the initialization. If the volume status changes to Healthy, the disk is successfully initialised.
