This topic describes how to delete an EVS, including the operation scenarios, restrictions, and procedure for deleting an EVS.
Scenario
If you no longer use a pay-as-you-go EVS, you can delete the EVS to release storage space. The EVS is no longer charged once it is deleted. The data in the EVS is inaccessible once the EVS is deleted. At the same time, the physical storage space of the EVS will be recycled and the corresponding data will be overwritten. This storage space will not be re-allocated until the data is overwritten.
If the Recycle Bin function is enabled, the pay-as-you-go EVS will go to the recycle bin once it is deleted to avoid misoperation. The recycle bin function is disabled by default. For more information on how to enable the function, see Enabling Recycle Bin.
Restriction and Limitations
l Only EVS disks in Unattached or Frozen state can be deleted.
l The deleted EVS disks go to the recycle bin. You can restore them from the recycle bin if necessary.
l An EVS with snapshots cannot be directly deleted. You must manually delete all snapshots of the EVS or enable the Release all snapshots with EVS function.
l Only EVS disks in pay-as-you-go mode can be deleted and EVS disks in yearly/monthly subscription cannot be deleted.
l An EVS purchased with an elastic cloud server cannot be deleted separately.
Operation Steps
1. Log in to the console.
2. Click in the upper left corner of the console and select a region. In this topic, China (Hong Kong 2) is selected.
3. Select Storage > Elastic Volume Server to go to the EVS home page.
4. In the Elastic Volume Service List, select More > Delete in the Operation column in the row that contains the specified EVS.
5. In the dialog box that appears, confirm the information of the EVS to be deleted and click OK. In addition, in this window, you can set the EVS release policy to Release all snapshots with EVS. In this case, all snapshots of the EVS will be deleted when you unsubscribe from the EVS.
Note:
In the Unsubscribe/Delete EVS window, Release all snapshots with EVS can only be changed from "Unchecked" to "Checked".
6. After a period of time, if the EVS disappears from the EVS home page, the EVS is successfully deleted.
7. When the Recycle Bin function is enabled, you can see the deleted EVS in the recycle bin list. In this case, you can decide whether to restore or destroy it. If no operation is performed, the EVS will be automatically deleted by the system seven days after going to the recycle bin.
