Unmounting EVS

Scenario

Only data disks can be unmounted and system disks cannot be unmounted.

You can unmount a data disk online or offline. That is, you can unmount the data disk when the cloud server to which the disk is mounted is shut down or running.

There are two scenarios to unmount EVS, that is, unmounting from elastic cloud servers and unmounting from dedicated physical servers.

l  Elastic cloud servers: Users can unmount EVS from elastic cloud servers. This topic will describe how to unmount EVS from elastic cloud servers in details.

l  Dedicated physical servers: Users can attach EVS to dedicated physical servers as a data disk. Users can also unmount the data disk from dedicated physical servers in running or shutdown state. For more information, see Unmounting Data Disk from Dedicated Physical Servers.

Note:

Data disks purchased with a cloud server cannot be unmounted.

Before You Begin

l  Before unmounting an EVS mounted to a Windows-based cloud server, ensure that no program is reading or writing data from/to the EVS. Otherwise, data loss may occur or unmounting may fail.

l  Before unmounting an EVS mounted to a Linux-based cloud server, log in to the cloud server, run the umount command, and ensure that no program is reading or writing data from/to the EVS. Otherwise, data loss may occur or unmounting may fail.

Operation Steps

Users can unmount EVS in the following two ways:

l  Unmounting EVS in the EVS management console

l  Unmounting EVS in the ECS management console

Unmounting EVS in the EVS management console

1. Log in to the console.

2. Click  in the upper left corner of the console and select a region. In this topic, China (Hong Kong 2) is selected.

3. Click Storage > Elastic Volume Server to go to the EVS home page.

4. On the EVS home page, locate the row that contains the EVS to detach, and in the Operation column, click Detach. The Detach EVS dialog box is displayed.

5. Return to the EVS list. If the status of the EVS is Detaching, the EVS is being detached from the cloud server. When the status of the EVS changes to "Unattached", the EVS is detached.

Unmounting EVS in the ECS management console

1. Log in to the console.

2. Click  in the upper left corner of the console and select a region. In this topic, China (Hong Kong 2) is selected.

3. Select Compute and click ECS to go to the ECS list page.

4. Click the name of the ECS from which you want to detach the EVS. The ECS details page is displayed.

5. Click the EVS tab below the details page to view the detailed information about all EVS disks on the current cloud server. Locate the row that contains the EVS to detach, and in the Operation column, click Detach. In the Detach EVS dialog box that appears, click OK to detach the EVS.

Description

If a shared EVS is attached to multiple cloud servers at the same time, the EVS remains in the Attached state when it is detached from only one of the cloud servers. The status of the shared EVS changes to Unattached only when the shared EVS is detached from all cloud servers.
