Operation Scenarios:

This section uses Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (64 bits) to describe how to initialize an EVS mounted to an ECS running Windows.

The method for initializing a disk varies depending on the OS running on the ECS. This document is used for reference only.

Operation steps:

1.On the ECS desktop, select Start . Right-click Computer in the menu list, and choose Manage . The Server Management window pops up.

2.In the left navigation tree, choose Storage > Disk Management . The Disk Management page is displayed.

3.In the disk area, if the disk is Offline , right-click it and choose Online from the menu list.

4.After the disk is put online, the disk status changes from Offline to Not Initialized . Right-click the disk area and choose Initialize Disks from the menu list.

5.In the Initialize Disks dialog box, select the target disk, click MBR (Master Boot Record) , and

click OK , as shown in the following figure.

If you change the disk partition form after the disk has been used, the data on the disk will be cleared. Therefore, select a proper disk partition form when initializing the disk.

6.Right-click the unallocated space on the disk and choose New Simple Volume .

7.On the popupNew Simple Volume Wizard window, click Next .

8.Specify the volume size and click Next . The default value is the maximum size.

9.Assign a driver letter and click Next .

10.Select Format this volume with the following settings , set parameters based on the requirements, and format the new partition. Then, click Next .

11.Click Finish . Wait for the initialization to complete. When the volume status changes to Healthy , the initialization has finished successfully.
