Elastic Volume Service

Mounting EVS

2024-11-01 09:08:57

Scenario

After creating an EVS, you must mount the EVS to a cloud server or dedicated physical server for use as a data disk on the cloud server or dedicated physical server.

EVS disks include non-shared EVS and shared EVS.

Mounting Non-shared EVS

Restriction and Limitations

Ÿ   A non-shared EVS disk can only be attached to one ECS or physical server.

Ÿ   When you want to attach a non-shared EVS disk, the instance to which the EVS disk will be attach must be in the same regions as the EVS disk.

Ÿ   Fast SSDs can only be attached to general-purpose computing-plus and memory-optimized ECSs with at least 16 vCPUs newer than 6th Generation, and a maximum of three fast SSDs can be attached to an ECS.

Operation Steps

Users can mount EVS disks on the ECS or EVS page in the following steps:

Mounting on the ECS Page

1.       Log in to the console.

2.       Click   in the upper left corner of the console and select a Region. In this topic, China (Hong Kong 2) is selected.

3.       Select Compute and click Elastic Cloud Server to go to the Cloud Server List page.

4.       Click the name of the ECS to which you want to mount the EVS. The ECS details page is displayed.

5.       Click the EVS tab, and on the EVS page, click Attach Disk. The Attach Disk window is displayed.

6.       In the window that appears, select the EVS to attach and click OK to mount the EVS to the elastic cloud server. On the EVS Details page of the cloud server, you can view the detailed information of the attached EVS.

Mounting on the EVS Page

1.       Log in to the console.

2.       Click  in the upper left corner of the console and select a Region. In this topic, China (Hong Kong 2) is selected.

3.       Click Storage > EVS.

4.       Locate the row that contains the EVS to be attached, and click Attach.

5.       In the Attach Disk dialog box, select the cloud server or dedicated physical server to which the disk is mounted.

6.       Click OK. In the pop-up window, you can click Initialise Data Disk or click OK.

7.       Return to the Elastic Volume Service List page. When the status of the EVS changes to "Attached", the EVS is attached.

Mounting Shared EVS

Restriction and Limitations

Ÿ   A shared EVS disk can only be used as a data disk, not a system disk.

Ÿ   A shared EVS disk can be attached to a maximum of 16 ECSs or physical servers at the same time.

Ÿ   When you attach a shared EVS disk, the ECS or the physical server must reside in the same AZ in the same region as the shared EVS disk.

Ÿ   A shared EVS disk in SCSI disk mode can only be attached to an ECS that is located in the same mandatory anti-affinity ECS group; otherwise, the SCSI lock cannot work normally, which may cause data loss.

Ÿ   A shared EVS disk can be attached to multiple ECSs running on either Windows or Linux OS.

Operation Steps

You can mount a shared EVS on the EVS page in the following steps:

1.       Log in to the console.

2.       Click  in the upper left corner of the console and select a Region. In this topic, China (Hong Kong 2) is selected.

3.       Click Storage > EVS to go to the Elastic Volume Service List page.

4.       Locate the row that contains the shared EVS to be attached, and click Attach.

Note: The differences between a shared EVS and a   non-shared EVS are as follows: After a non-shared EVS is attached to a cloud   server, the Attach button is grayed out while a shared EVS can be   attached again.

5.       When you click Attach, the Attach Disk window is displayed. This window displays the number of servers to which the current EVS have been attached and the remaining number of servers to which the EVS can be attached. You can select the cloud servers or dedicated physical servers to which the EVS is attached in this window, click the rightwards arrow button in the middle, and click OK button to take the cloud server or dedicated physical server as one of the attach points. You can also click the left arrow button to remove the selected cloud servers or dedicated physical servers from the selected servers list.

Now, the shared EVS is attached to an elastic cloud server or dedicated physical server.
