This topic summarizes the common questions when unsubscribing from and deleting EVS.
Can EVS data that is deleted accidentally be restored?
Try using the EVS snapshot or VBS to restore the data that is deleted accidentally.
When you use this method to restore data, you need to check whether the EVS disk has a corresponding EVS snapshot or VBS backup. If so, you can use the snapshot or backup to completely restore the data to the snapshot/backup time point. For more information, see Snapshot Rollback and EVS Backup and Restoration. If no snapshot/backup is available, data cannot be restored.
It should be noted that if the lost data was created later than the last snapshot or backup, the lost data cannot be restored from the snapshot or backup. As a result, take regular snapshots or backups of EVS disk data.
How do I enable the recycle bin feature?
The EVS recycle bin is one of important ways to protect data on the EVS disks. You can enable the recycle bin to restore EVS disk data and avoid loss of EVS disk data due to accidental deletion. The EVS recycle bin is disabled by default. You can select the recycle bin tab on the EVS disk list page to enable the recycle bin on the recycle bin tab.
For more information, see Enable the Recycle Bin.
Why cannot the EVS be deleted?
EVS is billed in two modes, pay-as-you-go and yearly/monthly subscription. The EVS in pay-as-you-go mode can be deleted while that in yearly/monthly subscription mode cannot be deleted. Users can only unsubscribe from the EVS in yearly/monthly subscription mode.
You are subject to the following limitations to delete the EVS in pay-as-you-go mode:
· System disks cannot be deleted and only data disks can be deleted.
· Only EVS disks that are not attached can be deleted.
· Before deleting an EVS disk, you need to delete all snapshots of the EVS disk.
Why can't I unsubscribe from the EVS in yearly/monthly subscription mode?
Pay attention to the following points when unsubscribing from the EVS in yearly/monthly subscription mode:
· System disks cannot be unsubscribed and only data disks can be unsubscribed.
· The EVS purchased with the elastic cloud server cannot be unsubscribed.
Can an EVS be unsubscribed or deleted when a cloud server is unsubscribed or deleted?
An EVS you purchase separately, if mounted to a cloud server, will be automatically unmounted, but not unsubscribed or deleted when the cloud server is unsubscribed or deleted.
For an EVS you purchase with a cloud server, when the cloud server is unsubscribed or deleted, the system disk and the data disk you purchase with the cloud server will also be unsubscribed or deleted.
Can the data be restored when the EVS is unsubscribed, deleted, or released after the retention period?
You can restore an EVS disk using one of the following two methods:
· If you have enabled the recycle bin feature, please check the recycle bin first. If there is an EVS disk in the recycle bin that you want to restore, restore it from the recycle bin. For details, see Restore an EVS Disk from the Recycle Bin.
· If you have backed up data using the VBS feature, you can use the VBS to create a new EVS disk to restore data from the backup.
