This topic describes how to expand the capacity of logical volumes with unallocated capacity when the LVM is used to manage EVS.

Overview of Practices

If the capacity of a logical volume cannot meet your needs, you can expand the capacity of the logical volume.

This guide assumes that you have created a 15 GB logical volume but the capacity cannot meet your needs, and you want to increase the capacity by 4 GB.

Note:

When expanding the capacity, ensure that the volume group to which the logical volume to be expanded belong has sufficient free space.

Operation Steps

Log in to the elastic cloud server as the root user.
Run the "lvextend -L +capacity to increase path of logical volume" command to expand the capacity of the logical volume. The value of the capacity to increase must be smaller than the free space of the volume group. The unit can be either MB or GB. For the path of logical volume, enter the path of the logical volume to expand.
For example, run the lvextend -L +4GB /dev/vgdata/lvdata1 command. The information as shown in the following figure is returned:

In this case, only the capacity of the logical volume is expanded. The capacity is available only when the corresponding file system is also expanded accordingly.

Run the resize2fs path of logical volume to expand the capacity of the file system. For example, run the resize2fs /dev/vgdata/lvdata1 command. The information as shown in the following figure is returned:
Run the df -h command to check whether the capacity of the file system is increased. The information as shown in the following figure is returned:

As shown in the figure, the capacity of the file system /dev/mapper/vgdata-lvdata1 increases by 4 GB.
