Scenario

Users can expand the capacity of EVS when the EVS space is insufficient. There are two methods to scale up the EVS:

Apply for a new EVS and mount to a cloud server.
Scale up the existing EVS space. Both system disks and data disks can be scaled up.

This topic mainly describes method 2. In this method, you can scale up an EVS whose status is Attached or Unattached. An EVS whose status is Attached is the EVS to scale up that has been attached to a cloud server. An EVS whose status is Unattached is the EVS to scale up that has not been attached to a cloud server. The maximum capacity of a system disk is 2 TB and the maximum capacity of a data disk is 32 TB. The minimum expansion capacity is 1 GB in a step of 1 GB.

Restriction and Limitations

If the EVS to scale up is in Attached state, you can scale up the EVS only when a cloud server is running or shut down.
For public images, an EVS whose status is Attached can be scaled up. This is also true for private images.
An EVS can be scaled up but not scaled down.
Check the partition form of the EVS disk before scaling up after putting into use, as follows:

Partitioning Form	Cautions
MBR partition	A maximum of 2 TB (2048 GB). The capacity part beyond 2 TB is unavailable.
GPT partition	The capacity can be up to 18 EB (19327352832 GB). The EVS server supports a maximum capacity of 32 TB (32768 GB) data disks. That is, you can scale up data disks to 32 TB.
An MBR partition must be expanded to greater than 2 TB.	The disk partitioning form must be switched from MBR to GPT. During this process, services will be interrupted and the original data on the disk will be cleared after the disk partitioning form is changed. Therefore, back up the data before capacity expansion.

I Scaling Up EVS in the Console

Log in to the console.
Click in the upper left corner of the console and select a region. In this topic, China (Hong Kong 2) is selected.
Click Storage > Elastic Volume Server to go to the EVS home page.
In the Elastic Volume Service List , select Expand in the Operation column in the row that contains the specified EVS. The Expand disk page is displayed.
As instructed on the screen, configure the Newly Increased Capacity parameter, and then click OK .
After making your payment, on the EVS home page, view the result of EVS scaling up. When the EVS status changes from Scaling Up to Unattached or Attached, the capacity of the EVS increases, indicating that the scaling up is successful.

EVS with capacity expanded must be further processed.
