Creating an RDS MySQL Instance

2023-10-30 08:40:50

Scenario

This section describes how to create an RDS MySQL instance in the eSurfing Cloud console.

MySQL supports the yearly/monthly subscription and pay-as-you-go billing modes. You can create an RDS instance with specified computing capabilities and storage space based on your business requirements.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the eSurfing Cloud console.

  2. In the eSurfing Cloud console, select a region and a project.

  3. Select Database > RDS MySQL. Then, the information page of RDS MySQL appears.

  4. On the Instance Management page, click Create Database Instance.

  5. On the Service Selection page, select a billing mode. Enter and select instance information. Then, click Buy Now.

  6. If you select Pay-as-you-go as your billing mode, confirm your instance specification.

If you need to re-select your instance specification, click Back to modify your instance information.

If the instance specification is confirmed, click Submit Application to complete your application for instance purchase.

In this case, skip Steps 7 and 8 and perform Step 9.

  7. If you select Yearly/Monthly subscription as your billing mode, confirm your order.

If you need to re-select your instance specification, click Back to modify your instance information.

If the order is confirmed, click Pay. Then, the Payment page appears.

If you are not certain of your instance specification, click Submit and Don't Pay Now. In this case, the system retains your order, and you can go to Billing > My Orders to pay or cancel the order.

The system creates a Yearly/Monthly subscription instance only after you pay the bill.

  8. Select a payment mode and pay the bill.

Note: Perform this operation only if you select Yearly/Monthly subscription as your billing mode.

  9. If an RDS MySQL instance is created, you can view and manage the instance on the Instance Management Page.

When the system creates your instance, the status is Creating. You can go to Task Center to view the result. In the upper-right corner of the Instance List pageimg, click Refresh, and the status of the created instance is shown as Running.

When the system creates your instance, the system enables the automatic backup policy by default. You can change the policy. After the system creates your instance, the system automatically creates a full data backup.

By default, the database port is 13049. You can change the port after the system creates your instance.

Description

Billing Mode

Yearly/Monthly subscription: If you select this billing mode, skip Step 6 and perform Step 7 after you perform Step 5.

Pay-as-you-go: If you select this billing mode, perform Step 6 after you perform Step 5.

Basic Info

ParameterDescription
RegionSpecify the region of a tenant. You can change the region in the upper-left corner of the page.
Note: Services across different regions cannot access each other over an internal network. Exercise caution when you specify this parameter because you cannot change the region after you purchase an instance.
Instance NameSpecify an instance name. The name must be 4 to 64 characters in length and start with a letter. The name can only contain letters, digits, hyphens (-), and underscores (_).
Database EngineMySQL。
Database VersionDifferent regions support different database versions. Select a database version based on the displayed versions.
If you specify a database engine version for a MySQL database, select a proper version based on your business requirements.
It is recommended that you select the highest available version. The highest available version brings stable performance, high security, and high reliability.

Specifications and Storage

ParameterDescription
SpecificationsSpecify CPU and memory for an instance. The maximum number of connections and the input/output operations per second (IOPS) vary based on specifications. You can modify this parameter after the system creates your instance.
Storage TypeThe storage type of an instance determines its read/write speed. A storage type with high maximum I/O throughput provides high read/write speed.
General I/O throughput: The storage type SATA provides a maximum I/O throughput of 90 MB/s.
High I/O throughput: The storage type SAS provides a maximum I/O throughput of 150 MB/s.
Ultra-high I/O throughput: The storage type SSD provides a maximum I/O throughput of 350 MB/s.
Storage SpaceThe storage space that you apply for includes the required file system overhead. The overhead covers inodes, reserved blocks, and the space required for running a database.
You can specify storage space from 100 GB to 4,000 GB. The value must be an integral multiple of 10. You can expand the storage space of your instance after the system creates the instance.

Network

ParameterDescription
Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)Specify a virtual dedicated network for an instance. You can isolate different businesses by network.
You need to create or select a VPC.
For information about how to create a VPC, see Configuring Basic VPC Information and Creating a Default Subnet in VPC User Guide.
If no VPCs can be selected, RDS MySQL assigns resources to you by default.
Note: After the system creates your RDS MySQL instance, you cannot change the VPC of the instance. Proceed with caution when you select the VPC of the instance.
SubnetThe system provides dedicated network resources that are isolated by network based on a subnet to increase network security.
A subnet is valid only in an availability zone (AZ). By default, the system enables the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) feature for a subnet in which your RDS MySQL instance is created. You cannot disable the feature.
When you create your RDS MySQL instance, the service automatically configures a VPC address. You can also enter an unused VPC address within your subnet CIDR block. You can change the VPC address after the instance is created.
VPC Security GroupA VPC security group specifies rules for secure instance access and strengthens access security between RDS MySQL and other services.
Make sure that the selected VPC security group allows your client to access your instance.
If you do not create a VPC security group or no VPC security groups can be selected, RDS MySQL assigns a VPC security group to you by default.

Database Configuration

ParameterDescription
Admin AccountBy default, the value of this parameter is root.
Admin PasswordThe password can be up to 832 characters in length and must contain at least three of the following character types: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, digits, and special characters !@#%^-_=+?
Make sure that you enter a strong password and regularly change it to enhance security. This helps avoid security risks such as brute force attacks.
Keep your password confidential because the system cannot obtain the information.
Confirm PasswordThe value of this parameter must be the same as your admin password.

Subscription Period

ParameterDescription
Duration (Yearly/Monthly subscription)Specify a subscription duration. The system automatically calculates the configuration fees of the specified duration. A longer subscription duration provides a higher discount.
QuantityYou can create multiple RDS MySQL instances at a time. If you select to create one instance with a primary/standby architecture, the system creates one primary instance and one standby instance at the same time.

Note: The performance of RDS MySQL instances varies based on the configurations selected when you apply for the instances. You can select the following hardware configuration items: storage space, specifications, and storage type.
