Feature Overview

If a domain name is hosted on origin servers for handling IPv4-based requests and origin servers for handling IPv6-based requests, you can configure IPv4/IPv6 redirect to follow the protocol of the client request when returning to the origin. Specifically, CDN can redirect the requests that are sent over IPv4 to the specified origin servers for IPv4-based requests and those sent over IPv6 to the origin servers for IPv6-based requests. You can specify custom weights based on which CDN redirects requests to the origin servers that you configure for IPv4 and IPv6 requests. The following figure shows the working principle of IPv4/IPv6 redirect following the protocol of the client requests.

Application Scenarios

Scenario 1: A domain name is hosted on multiple origin servers. Origin Server 1 and Origin Server 2 are used to handle requests sent over IPv4, and Origin Server 3 and Origin Server 4 are used to handle requests sent over IPv6. You can configure round-robin redirect between Origin Server 1 and Origin Server 2 for IPv4-based requests, and round-robin redirect between Origin Servers 3 and Origin Server 4 for IPv6-based requests.

Scenario 2: A domain name is hosted on multiple origin servers. Origin Server 1 and Origin Server 2 are used to handle requests sent over IPv4, and Origin Server 3 and Origin Server 4 are used to handle requests sent over IPv6. You can configure CDN to redirect IPv4-based requests from specific regions to Origin Server 1 and IPv4-based requests from other regions to Origin Server 2. Similarly, you can configure CDN to redirect IPv6-based requests from specific regions to Origin Server 3 and IPv6-based requests from other regions to Origin Server 4.

Scenario 3: A domain name is hosted on multiple origin servers. Origin Server 2 that is used to handle requests sent over IPv4 has better performance than Origin Server 1 that is used to handle requests sent over IPv6. You can configure CDN to redirect all IPv4-based user requests to Origin Server 2 and set a weight ratio of 4:6 to redirect 40% of the IPv6-based requests to Origin Server 2 and 60% of the IPv6-based requests to Origin Server 1.

Additional Considerations

You can use the IPv4/IPv6 redirect feature together with the Origin request based on region/ISP feature. For example, you can configure CDN to redirect the IPv4-based requests from users of ISP A in Region A to Origin Server A and IPv6-based requests from users of ISP B in Region B to Origin Server B.

Please provide the following information:

• Describe the association relationships between IPv4/IPv6-based requests and origin servers. If you have multiple origin servers for handling IPv4-based or IPv6-based requests, specify the active and standby origin servers and the weights of the origin servers.

• Specify origin servers for handling requests sent over protocols other than IPv4 or IPv6.
