Deleting Files from a Bucket with Versioning Disabled

Scenario

To save storage space and costs, you can manually delete unnecessary files from ZOS using the console. You can delete files individually or in batches. Alternatively, you can set up lifecycle management policies to automatically remove files periodically or remove files all at once. For more information, see Lifecycle Management.

Note:

Without versioning enabled, deleted files cannot be restored.
When deleting a file folder, all files contained within it are also removed.
Deleting files is irreversible. Exercise caution when performing this operation.

Operation Steps

On the homepage of the official eSurfing Cloud website, click Console , and enter your username and password to log in to the console.
In the upper part of the console, click and select a region. In this example, Asia Pacific-China (Hong Kong 2) is selected.
Choose Storage > Zettabyte Object Storage .
Click the bucket name to open the overview page.
Click File Management , select the file or file folder that you want to delete, and then click Delete .
Alternatively, select multiple files or file folders to batch delete them.
In the dialog box displayed, click OK to confirm the deletion.

Versioning Enabled or Suspended

Scenario

When versioning is enabled or suspended, deleted files or folders are retained as historical versions rather than being permanently erased. To completely delete them, select the versions and click Delete All.

Note:

A deleted file version cannot be restored. If the version you delete is the latest version or the delete marker, the most recent historical version automatically becomes the latest version.

Operation Steps

On the homepage of the official eSurfing Cloud website, click Console , and enter your username and password to log in to the console.
In the upper part of the console, click and select a region. In this example, Asia Pacific-China (Hong Kong 2) is selected.
Choose Storage > Zettabyte Object Storage .
Click the bucket name to open the overview page.
Click the File Management tab, toggle the switch to enable History Version , select the file version that you want to delete, and then click Delete All .
Alternatively, select multiple files or file folders to batch delete them.

File Version Description

Version	Description
Latest Version	When versioning is enabled, every action performed on an object is recorded as a version. The most recent operation represents the latest version.
History Version	When versioning is enabled, every action performed on an object is recorded as a version. All versions, except the latest one, are considered historical versions.

Delete Marker

The delete marker acts as a placeholder for a deleted object within the versioning system. When versioning is enabled or suspended, deleted files or folders are retained as historical versions rather than being permanently erased. Furthermore, delete markers are assigned to these deleted files or folders.

A delete marker includes a file name (Key), and a version ID, but lacks content or ACL values. If you attempt a GET request on a delete marker version, you will receive error 404 as the version does not contain any data.
When you delete a file from a bucket with versioning enabled or suspended, the file is not immediately removed. Instead, a delete marker is generated to signify the current state of the file, indicating its deletion.
If you want to delete a delete marker, locate its version ID and completely delete it. If you want to delete a file version, locate the version ID and completely delete it.
