Reinstall Operating System

Scenario

When the ECS operating system fails to start normally or needs to be optimized to work at its optimum, the user can use the function of reinstalling operating system.

The function of reinstalling the operating system allows users to replace the current operating system to meet business needs. This includes upgrading to a higher version of the operating system to meet specific software requirements. In eSurfing Cloud, you can choose different types of images, including public images and private images, and you can switch between Windows and Windows, Linux and Linux, Windows and Linux. In this way, you can flexibly choose the operating system that suits your actual business needs.

Reinstallation Instructions

· After reinstalling the operating system, the IP address and MAC address of your Elastic Cloud Server will remain unchanged.

· Reinstalling the operating system will erase all data on the system disk, including the system partition and all other partitions. Therefore, be sure to back up important data in advance.

· Reinstalling the operating system will not affect the data on the data disk, and the information on your data disk will remain unchanged.

· Within a few minutes after reinstalling the operating system, the system will inject password or key information. During this time, please do not do anything else to avoid causing the password or key information injection to fail and you will not be able to log in to your cloud server. Please be patient and wait for the injection process to complete.

Restriction and Limitations

· If you use an Elastic Cloud Server created from the private image, make sure that the original image still exists in order to successfully complete the reinstallation.

· If the original cloud server adopts pay-as-you-go billing mode, make sure that your account balance is sufficient to cover the relevant fees.

· If the original cloud server adopts subscription-based billing mode, make sure that the cloud server is still within its validity period.

· Before reinstalling the operating system with one click, make sure to shut down the cloud server first, or check the Shutdown Now option when prompted.

Reinstall single operating system

1. Log in to the console.

2. Click at the top of Control Center and select Region.

3. Click Product and Service List in the left navigation bar and select Computing > Elastic Cloud Server.

4. In the Action column below the Elastic Cloud Server where you want to reinstall the operating system, click More > One-click Reinstall.

5. Follow the prompts to select Image Type according to business needs, click Reinstall Options to select the operating system and version, and complete password and user configuration.

6. Click Yes.

7. Once the request to reinstall the system is submitted, the status of the Elastic Cloud Server will change to Rebuilding. When this status disappears, the reinstallation is complete.

Follow-up processing

If the reinstallation of the operating system fails, the page displays a message that the reinstallation of the operating system failed. You can use the retry function provided by the cloud service platform to perform steps 3 to 7 again to try reinstalling the ECS operating system.

If the retry is still unsuccessful, it is recommended to contact customer service directly. Customer service personnel will perform manual recovery operations in the background to resolve the issue.

Reinstall multiple operating systems

1. Log in to the console.

2. Click at the top of Control Center and select Region.

3. Click Product and Service List in the left navigation bar and select Computing > Elastic Cloud Server.

4. Select multiple cloud servers to be reinstalled on the left of cloud server list.

5. At the top of the cloud server list page, click the More button and click One-click Reinstall

6. Follow the prompts to select Image Type according to business needs, click Reinstall Options to select the operating system and version, and complete password and user configuration.

7. Click Yes.

8. Once the request to reinstall the system is submitted, the status of the Elastic Cloud Server will change to Rebuilding. When this status disappears, the reinstallation is complete.
